Microbes are the dominants, in number and diversity, on the Three domains of life on the Earth [1]. They live in almost every habitat poles, deserts and deep sea in very different conditions [2]. These microorganisms produce communities defined by the ecological interactions between the organisms and the environment [3]. In particular, they make up the microbiota that we can found in and on all multicellular organisms.
Nowadays, the human microbiota has been receiving much attention lately, and there is clear evidence that interplay exists between the gut microbiota and the development of diseases, as obesity, Crohns disease and ulcerative colitis, diabetes , and many others. [4]
In these talk we will review the type of interactions between populations in the microbiota. Interactions within these ecological webs can be positive or negative for one or both species [5].
Then, we address, from the point of view of  theoretical models, different ways to modelize and study these ecological behaviour. On some occasions, we will use tools from the ecology of large organisms. We think that understand the ecological behaviour using theoretical models can be a first step to address this complex problem. In particular, we are interested in apply these studies in medical problems [6].
