Freewheelin’ scientists: citing Bob Dylan in the biomedical literature

El primer artículo científico que utilizó un verso de Bob Dylan data de 1970:

pero es a partir de 1990 cuando las citas a Dylan en las publicaciones de biomedicina han crecido exponencialmente, según afirma este trabajo:

No se puede afirmar categoricamente que este incremento de citas haya estado influido por la apuesta que varios científicos suecos realizaron a principios de los noventa, proponiendo un almuerzo gratis en el restaurante de su universidad a quien lograra publicar antes de jubilarse más versos de Bob Dylan en sus trabajos (https://jonsjacob.gastrogate.com/lunch/), más que nada porque la cualidad de estos restaurantes estriba más en el precio que en la sofisticación de sus platos, como se puede apreciar por las puntuaciones que el citado restaurante ha recogido en Google, pero probablemente en algo habrá contribuido.
En cualquier caso es importante destacar, de cara a la comunidad científica, las siguientes declaraciones de los científicos promotores de esta iniciativa en la web de su universidad:
“The contest is open for everyone,” says Jon Lundberg. He goes on to explain that they usually draw attention to one another’s new articles via email.
The researchers also point out that it is primarily in review articles and commentaries that it is possible to use quotes since these articles are often slightly lighter in tone (less heavyweight) than others.
“But it’s important that the quote is linked to the scientific content, that it reinforces the message and raises the quality of the article as such, not the reverse,” says Jonas Frisén.
